Colour profile of your poster

When your poster is ready for printing, you have to be sure it has a CMYK colour profile. This is a colour profile that is suitable for print and ensures that the colors are displayed correctly. You can read more about CMYK in the Science Poster Design Guide, chapter 6, or check for example https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CMYK_color_model.

Check it for the tool of your choice:

Adobe Illustrator

  1. In Adobe Illustrator, go to the top navigation bar (with 'File, Edit, Object, etc...').
  2. Go to File.
  3. Go to Document Color Mode.
  4. Choose 'CMYK Color'.

Microsoft PowerPoint

Unfortunately PowerPoint doesn't offer a CMYK version of your poster (since it's a tool mostly used for making digital presentations). What you can do is the following:

  1. In PowerPoint, go to the top navigation bar > File.
  2. Choose 'Export...'.
  3. In the 'File Format' dropwdown menu, pick PDF.
  4. After naming your file, export it to PDF.
  5. Open your PDF file in Adobe Reader.
  6. In the top navigation bar, go to Edit > Preferences.
  7. Choose 'Color Management'.
  8. At 'CMYK' select the appropriate settings for your printer. If you do not know, ask your printer.

Affinity Designer

  1. In the black bar below the top navigation bar, go to 'Document Setup...'.
  2. Go to the 'Colour' tab.
  3. At 'Colour Format' select 'CMYK/8'.
  4. Click OK.
